Massage FAQS

Do I have to get fully undressed to have a massage?

There are many types of massage. Some techniques do require skin to skin contact between the client and therapist. Others can be performed through clothing. Clients will NEVER be asked to undress beyond their own comfort level and should ALWAYS feel free to ask questions about special concerns at anytime during a session. Draping with a sheet and light blanket will be used during your massage session for coverage and warmth. Draping will be adjusted, with the client’s consent, to only uncover areas as they are being worked on throughout the session. If the thought of undressing is uncomfortable for you, please contact me to discuss possible fully clothed options!

How often should I get a massage?

The reason you are choosing massage will help to dictate the frequency of your visits. For general well-being, stress management, and preventative care, 1 to 2 massages per month is typical for most clients. For those recovering from injury or addressing discomfort that is affecting activities of daily life, more frequent massage for 4-6 weeks is often needed to see improvement.

Can my son/daughter who is a minor get a massage?

A parent must sign a parental consent form and be present during the treatment for a minor to receive massage at JMavin Massage. Please talk to Jenn before scheduling an appointment for your child to determine what type of massage service best fits his/her/their needs.

What type of self-care activities will I be asked to do at home between massage sessions?

While amazing, a single massage session can not “undo” the stresses put on our bodies through day-to-day life alone. Self-care activities help to maintain the benefits of massage between sessions and will help those recovering from injury/chronic issues see improvement quicker than with massage alone. Self-care suggestions may include specific stretching or strengthening exercises, home application of heat or ice, or a referral to a another healthcare provider for additional services such as physical therapy, osteopathic medicine, chiropractic care or acupuncture. One standard suggestion for all clients will be to maintain a healthy level of hydration by consuming approximately 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of water daily!

Am I expected to tip my massage therapist?

Tips are accepted but not expected at JMavin Massage. I feel I charge a fair market price for my services, and whether clients choose to tip or not will never affect the level of service they receive!
